I have to admit.
Track 1 on this album is a killer.
However, stylistically is seems that Godsmack is trying to write or
continue this song with every other track on the album, all the while failing
to achieve the greatness of the opener.
I won’t criticize this album from a technical point, meaning objectively
evaluating this album with respect to what musicians in academia consider great
other than to say that I wouldn’t recommend Awake if you have a taste for
sophisticated music. If you are a fan of
Godsmack, chances are that you could care less about sophistication. However, some of us musical geeks, whom are
those this review is intended for, like to stay in touch with what is popular
among the youth, and that is whom this review is intended for, such that we can
guide them, the youth, and teach them in their own way. As for me, I would recommend this album for
someone who only has modest or poor intelligence, and in addition has affinity
for living the lifestyle of a scrapehead.
It is not because I approve of the scrapehead lifestyle that I would
recommend this album to some whom perhaps has many tattoos, recreationally uses
drugs, flunks most tests, and possibly exercises regularly at the gym, but it
is such that I respect that if that is an ideal for you, this stuff should be
right up your alley.
